How do I Donate Cars in Central Florida?
Most charities that take car donations---including those located in Central Florida---use a car donation organization to pick up the car for free and sell the cars on their behalf. A portion of the sales then goes to your designated charity. You must have your title, copy of registration from the Department of Motor Vehicles or a transferable registration to donate your car. Keep records of the transactions; donating a car is tax deductible if you itemize your federal taxes.

Locate a nonprofit organization to donate your car. Use a national car donation website (see links in References section) to find charities to which you can donate your car in Central Florida, such as Ronald McDonald House of North Central Florida and Make a Wish Foundation of Central and North Florida. You can also donate your car directly to organizations like Outreach Center of Central Florida (see link in References section), which receive donated cars in good working condition to donate to a family or individual in need of transportation.

Fill out the required form, or call the organization as listed on its website. You'll need to know specifics about the car such as the make, model, mileage and its condition.

Wait for the representative to contact you, usually by phone or email, to inform you of the organization's requirements for a car donation. Most charities pick up the cars themselves with a tow truck.

Locate your vehicle's title, or get a duplicate title from you local Department of Motor Vehicles if necessary; obtaining a duplicate title in Florida will require a fee, proof of identity and a completed Form HSMV 82101, available online (see link in Resources section). Inflate the tires and double-check that the car is not missing any parts, such as a battery. If so, the organization may not accept it. Remove the license plates, and turn them into a driver's license office or a tax collector. In Florida, licensed plates are non-transferable. Do not cancel your insurance until after you have canceled your tags with the DMV. Time these procedures carefully to avoid a fine.
