Use Photoshop to create animated smiles.

Some people just do not photograph well. This can be for a variety of reasons, but one of the most common is they just don't like or are not comfortable smiling on cue. This is especially annoying in a group photo of a family get-together or business event.Fortunately, if you have access to Photoshop, it is quick and easy to fix this problem and give your sourpuss a happy smile.

Instructions

    • 1

Load the image that you want to edit onto you computer. Although you can scan it in, it is better to use an image from a quality digital source, like a camera or SD card.

    • 2

Open Photoshop. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog that appears, locate the image you want to edit and open it.

    • 3

Select "Filter" from the menu and choose "Liquify." The "Liquify" dialog will appear.

    • 4

Select the "Twist Clockwise" tool from the toolbar of the left. In the tool options on the right, set the size and strength you want to start with. It should be slightly larger than the left edge of the lips. Then click once to create the beginnings of a smile. If the effect is too great, you can click "Revert," adjust the tool settings and try again.

    • 5

Switch to the "Twist Counter-Clockwise" and use the approach in Step 4 to adjust the lips on the other side. Do not make both sides exactly the same, since most people have non-uniform smiles.

    • 6

Use the "Push" tool to make smaller adjustments until you like the preview. Right-click on the layer and choose "Duplicate Layer."

    • 7

Repeat steps 3 through 6 on the new layer, creating even more of a smile. Continue this process of creating new layers until the last layer you create has the full smile you are looking for.

    • 8

Select "Window" from the menu and choose "Animation." A timeline will appear at the bottom of the screen. Click on the little drop-down arrow in the upper, right corner of the timeline and choose "Make Frames from Layers."

    • 9

Go to the bottom of each frame and enter the duration you want each to appear in the animation.

    • 10

Select "File" from the menu and choose "Save for Web or Devices." In the dialog that appears, make the file type GIF and click "Save." Name your animation and save it.
