How Do I Find Government Auctions in San Diego?

Merchandise can be bought for pennies on the dollar at government auctions.

Government auctions are popular events for people looking to buy something at below market prices. Several U.S. government agencies, such as U.S. Customs and the General Services Administration, hold such auctions and have websites that facilitate the process. Often the auctioned items are overstocked or outdated. Local auctions, such as those found in San Diego, are usually held by law enforcement agencies selling items that were either taken from criminals or unclaimed stolen merchandise.

Instructions

1. Find items for sale by the City of San Diego at the Ken Porter website for live auctions and the city's own "Public Auction" web page for Internet sales. Ken Porter is a well-established auction service based in Southern California.

2. Find items for sale by the San Diego Police Department on the City of San Diego website.

3. Locate other items for auction on sites such as the Government Auction blog. Click on "California" and then drill down to "San Diego."

4. Check out the websites for the various Federal agencies that hold auctions to see if any are being held in the San Diego area. Some of these agency sites include U.S. Customs, General Services Administration and the U.S. Postal Service.
