How to Evict a Node in a Cluster

How to Evict a Node in a Cluster thumbnail
Each node can be removed from the cluster and put back again.

When a node in a computer cluster fails, simply transfer its resources to another node and evict it from the cluster. Check with the vendors of the applications on the node first to see what their particular requirements are. Only a member of the Administrators Group or someone who has been authorized by the group can evict a node from a cluster. When you evict a node from a cluster, it is still there, but as a standalone node. You can put the node back into the old cluster or create a new cluster around it.

Instructions

    • 1

Close all of the applications that are on the node you are about to remove.

    • 2

Click on "Start." Select "Control Panel," double-click on "Administrative Tools" and double-click on "Cluster Administrator" to open the Cluster Administrator.

    • 3

Go over the failover policies in the Cluster Administrator for the resource groups that are on the node you are going to evict.

    • 4

Go to the console tree and double-click on the "Groups" folder. Click on the groups on the node you are going to evict. Click on "Move Group" from the "File" menu. Choose the node you want to move the groups to.

    • 5

Pick the node to be evicted. On the "File" menu, click on "Stop Cluster Service."

    • 6

Go to the "File" menu and click on "Evict Node" if the node you are evicting is the last node in the cluster.
