How Do I Clean & Restore Givi Motorcycle Luggage?

Givi manufactures a line of soft motorcycle luggage made from polyester. The luggage is water resistant and contains extra padding and lining so that it can sustain a greater amount of wear. The luggage is designed to be hooked onto the back of a motorcycle using a hooking plate. Over time, the luggage will become dirty and need to be cleaned. After the luggage is cleaned, it should be waterproofed to help restore its water repelling properties.

Things You'll Need

• Bucket
• Mild laundry detergent
• Rag or soft cloth
• Waterproofing spray

Instructions

1. Fill a bucket with warm water. Add 1 tbsp. mild laundry detergent per gallon of warm water. Swirl the water so the soap mixes into the water.

2. Dip a rag or soft cloth into the soapy water. Rub the cloth into the luggage to clean it. Continue until the entire surface of the luggage is cleaned. Only use enough water on the luggage as needed to clean the surface. Try not to soak the luggage. If desired, open up the inside of the luggage and wipe down the inside with the soapy water.

3. Dampen a clean cloth with cool water. Rub the cloth into the luggage surface to remove soap residue. Continue until all of the soap residue is removed from the luggage. Wipe away any soap residue inside of the luggage as well.

4. Allow the luggage to air-dry.

5. Purchase a waterproofing spray that is intended for outdoor fabrics and is safe to use on polyester fabrics. Shake the spray. Spray the outside of the luggage using long, even strokes. Continue until the entire outer surface is coated. Allow the luggage to completely air-dry. To increase protection, repeat the process up to two more times.
