Sun protection factor, or SPF, is the degree to which a sunblock, clothing, or protective item protects the skin from sun rays. The higher the SPF rating is, the more protection it offers from the sun. Currently, Rit manufacturers a product called SunGuard that adds additional SPF to clothing while it's being washed. Instructions

      Set your washing machine to water temperature and load levels appropriate for the type of clothing you are washing. Add laundry detergent in the same manner you normally would. Add the clothing to the washing machine.
