How do I Increase the SPF of a Clothing Wash?

SunGuard adds additional sun protection to your clothing, helping to block out ultraviolet rays.

Sun protection factor, or SPF, is the degree to which a sunblock, clothing, or protective item protects the skin from sun rays. The higher the SPF rating is, the more protection it offers from the sun. Currently, Rit manufacturers a product called SunGuard that adds additional SPF to clothing while it's being washed. The extra protection lasts for up to 20 washes.

Things You'll Need

• 1 package of SunGuard per load of laundry detergent

Instructions

1. Set your washing machine to water temperature and load levels appropriate for the type of clothing you are washing. Add laundry detergent in the same manner you normally would. Add the clothing to the washing machine.

2. Open a 1-ounce package of SunGuard and pour the entire package into the washing machine. Begin the washing cycle.

3. Dry the laundry in the same manner that you normally would.
