How to Check the Cooling Fan on an HP Pavilion Laptop
A lot of problems can come to your HP Pavilion laptop computer if the cooling fan isn't working properly. The most expensive and hard to fix of the issues that can come to your computer is the motherboard overheating and causing the computer to not be able to power on anymore. To avoid these issues, it is important to check the cooling fan often and to keep it clean by blowing pressurized air to remove dust.

Power off the computer, disconnect all devices, disconnect the power and flip the computer over and remove the battery.

Remove the four screws holding the two face plates at the bottom of the computer in place with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Remove the two face plates.

Remove the two screws holding the hard drive in place and pull off the hard drive.

Remove the five screws in the battery well, the one screw that is below the hard drive and the 15 screws along the edges of the laptop and the center of the laptop.

Flip the laptop over and open the monitor to access the keyboard.

Flip the laptop over and open the monitor up to access the keyboard.

Remove the five screws below where the keyboard used to be and then pull off the inside plate of the computer. You'll see the fan on the upper-left corner of the inside of the laptop case.

Wipe away all dust with a clean rag and then blow pressurized air into it.

Replace the inside plate, replace the screws, replace the keyboard, close the monitor and flip the computer over.

Replace the screws, replace the hard drive, replace the face plates, replace the battery and reconnect all devices. Flip the computer around again.

Open the monitor and power on the computer.
