Many discount travel sites offer a search option that helps you find low airfare by specifying a starting city but no destination city. These flights often come with specific time frames, including very sudden departures to the destination. But if you are one for adventure, are ready to leave soon and are looking for a more affordable trip somewhere — anywhere — in the world, this is a great way to search for, and find it.
Things You'll Need
Go to one of the discount sites that includes departure-only searches. Popular sites include Travelocity's "Travel Deals" tab that allows you to specify the origin city and the general area of interest, for example, North America; American Airlines "Flight Deals," where you can input the departure or arrival destination; Airfare Watchdog, where you simply type in your city of origin; and Last Minute, which is designed for impromptu vacations with departure-only searches.
Type your desired departure city in the search box. This city does not need to be where you live, but where you want to depart from. Driving to a larger city for departure can add more destinations and less expensive options.
Compare the flight options. Compare flights from one or many sites for the region you would like to fly in. If time is no object, comparing flights over days and weeks can lead to the most informed decision, but many of the deals expire so it's a risk whether you buy immediately or wait for a better deal.
Read the terms and conditions and purchase your tickets. Take note if the tickets are refundable. With many flight deals where no destination is specified, the tickets are not refundable, so make sure to read all provisions before purchasing the tickets.
