    Things You'll Need

    • Garden Shears
    • Ice Cube Trays
      • 1

Cut small, colorful flowers from your garden. Some types you might select are: pansies, violas, wallflowers, lobelia, and miniature roses. For larger flowers, simply use the petals instead of the whole flower.

      • 2

Fill an ice cube tray half full of water. Place the tray in the freezer until the water freezes.

      • 3

Remove the tray from the freezer and place one flower in each of the individual ice cube cups. Top off with enough water to cover the blossoms.

      • 4

Return the flower-filled ice cube trays to the freezer until the cubes are frozen.

      • 5

Remove the cubes from the trays and either store in the freezer or use in beverages.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Keep these colorful ice cubes on hand in the freezer to serve unexpected guests.

    • Use only pesticide-free flowers that you have grown in your own garden.

If you either do not want to desecrate your own garden or do not have appropriate flowers available, many Farmer's Markets and specialty stores sell edible flowers in the same area of the produce section as the fresh herbs. These are flowers that are grown with the intent to use them for edible uses, such as salads, and do not have pesticides. Herbs and leaves (e.g. mint leaves for lemon drinks) also are great for these ice cubes.
