Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Songbooks
  • Cologne
  • Perfume
  1. Step 1

Learn the music and lyrics to "Auld Lang Syne" so that you can sing along when midnight comes.

  2. Step 2

Assign a designated driver, if required. Arrange for a taxi pickup if no one wants to be the driver or if you're alone.

  3. Step 3

Choose a bar - preferably one that is local and well known.

  4. Step 4

Befriend the bartender if you don't know him or her already.

  5. Step 5

Get there well enough in advance to get a seat or a table - but not too early, or you may be too obliterated to know that the millennium has come and gone.

  6. Step 6

Be friendly to your fellow patrons.

  7. Step 7

Arrange to have champagne or a nonalcoholic drink in hand when the clock starts ticking down to midnight.

  8. Step 8

Wish someone you don't know a happy new year.

  9. Step 9

Make sure those around you who have overimbibed have safe transportation home when the evening is over.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is almost impossible to find a taxi on New Year's Eve, so arrange for one well in advance.
  • Never drink and drive.
