How do I Research Logos?
Effective logos are not easy to design. However, researching the basic elements behind what makes a logo effective and studying examples of logos from designers from all over the world are simple tasks. The Internet makes it possible to view and rate thousands of logos for inspirational and research purposes. Many websites offer professional design advice about the elements involved in logo design, such as font and color usage. Some websites also allow you to create logo design competitions where you name the price and see how many designers will design a logo for the price you set.

2
Research some of the common mistakes in logo design. Using stock images, creating complex designs that do not work well at different sizes, relying too heavily on color for its effect, and poor font choice are just a few of the more common mistakes.

They are simple to describe, which makes them easy to remember. They are just as effective with color as without and large or small. They have the same impact even decades after their first appearance, and they resonate wtih their intended audiences.

Look for inspiration from other logo designers, but avoid copying. Dozens of websites have been established to showcase designers from around the world (see Resources). These websites allow users to browse designs for inspiration on their own projects. Use these designs to inspire your own creations or to help explain a concept to a designer.

Find professional designers to make test logos. Get as many designs as possible to choose from. Many sites allow users to set a price point and invite designers who are willing to work for that price to create high quality professional designs (see Resources). You then select the design you think best represents your company.
-
6
Show the test designs to a sample of your target market. Choose the design that elicits the most positive response from the sample group.
