How to Recover an Image File for Gateway Laptops
Image files are typically stored on your Gateway laptop's hard drive, and can be transferred to portable storage devices. Sometimes these files can be accidentally lost or deleted while transferring them from your laptop's hard drive, but there are free programs you can use to restore image files back onto your Gateway laptop.

Recover image files using TOKIWA DataRecovery, a free downloadable program (see Resources). When the program has finished downloading on your Gateway laptop, bring up the drive selection menu. Find the drive you keep your image files stored on; the hard drive is the default drive for these files. Click "Scan Files". A list of thumbnails of deleted files will appear. Select the image files you want to restore and click the "Recovery" button.

Install Recuva on your laptop (see Resources). This is a free downloadable program that allows you to retrieve deleted files. Go to the drive selection screen and choose the drive you keep image files stored in. A display box containing deleted files will appear. Click on the ones you want to recover and click "Restore".

Download EASEUS, a free program, onto your Gateway laptop (see Resources). Open the drive selection screen once the program has been downloaded, and select the appropriate drive. A list of deleted items will be displayed. Highlight the image files you want to retrieve and click "Restore".

Tips & Warnings
Save image files in several locations, like on a flash drive or a CD, to prevent losing or accidentally deleting them.
Exposing portable storage devices to extreme temperatures can cause file corruption.
