How do I Install a Flag Pole Bolt to a Concrete Base?
A concrete surface provides a strong, hard, durable and permanent surface, making it a perfect place to erect a flagpole. Setting a bolt in existing concrete requires special tools and anchors that are readily available from retailers. Installing flagpole bolts in concrete bases is not a very difficult project for a handy do-it-yourselfer with the right tools. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Drill
- Carbide masonry drill bit
- Masonry hammer drill
- Masonry core bit
- Paintbrush
- Wire brush
- Epoxy

Place the flange on the ground and mark the bolt holes on the concrete surface. A flange is a piece of pipe with a thick metal rim at the end; it has bolt holes for securing the flange to a surface. The pipe is wide enough for the flagpole to fit in to and then secured to the flange.

Drill holes slightly larger than the bolt head into the marked areas using a standard drill equipped with a carbide masonry drill bit if holes are smaller than 1 inch in diameter. Holes larger than 1 inch in diameter require the use of a masonry hammer drill equipped with a masonry core bit, which is the masonry version of a hole saw.

Brush out holes to remove excess dust and debris with a small paintbrush.

Brush the insides of the holes with a wire brush to remove loose bits and pieces of concrete.

Brush the holes out again with a paintbrush to remove dust and debris.

Fill the hole with epoxy.

Place the bolt into the hole, bolt head first, threaded end sticking up.

Line up the flange holes with the bolts and place the flange over the bolts with each bolt sticking up through a hole.

Place a nut on the end of the bolt and tighten to secure the flange to the concrete.

Place the flagpole into the flange and bolt the flagpole to the flange.
