How to Design Your Own Birthday Banner

Use a template to design a birthday banner.

A birthday banner is a decorative sign that you can customize to feature a variety of birthday messages. When you design your own birthday banner, you can personalize it to reflect the interests and tastes of the birthday person. You can also customize the size and length of the banner to suit the area that you are decorating. To design your own birthday banner, use a computer with word processing software for a quick project. If you are without a computer then you can decorate your banner by hand.

Things You'll Need

• Online template
• Clip art
• Paper
• Scissors
• Tape

Instructions

1. Go to Microsoft's website, or a similar template website, and search for birthday banner templates. Microsoft offers several banner styles to suit your decorative tastes.

2. Download the birthday banner template you have selected. Once downloaded, open the template in Microsoft Word.

3. Change the text, font, and colors on the banner to match your needs. Experiment with different styles of lettering until you reach your desired look.

4. Delete, add or change the clip art on the template. Select clip art by navigating to "Insert" and then "Picture," then browsing the available clip art.

5. Fill the printer with the paper you would like to use, and print the banner. If you are using standard size paper, the image will be divided onto several different sheets. Consider using colored paper to add interest, or a heavier card stock to make the banner more durable.

6. Cut away any excess paper from the printed banner, if necessary. Tape together the edges of each piece of paper in order to create the banner.

Tips & Warnings

• If you do not have a computer or a word processing program, you can still create a banner using paper and other craft supplies. Connect several pieces of paper using tape to create the length of the banner, then write on the paper using crayons, markers or colored pencils. If you are not confident in your neatness, you can use letter templates that can be purchased from a craft store. Personalize the banner by drawing designs, or cutting photos from magazines and pasting them to the banner.
