How to Record a Mini DV to DVD
A wide variety of camcorders record video signals onto mini DV tapes. These tapes are small (mini) and consist of a digital video (DV) format. The quality of this digital recording format is good enough to be used in some professional video-production environments. Once a camcorder records video onto a mini DV tape, it can be transferred to a PC and then burned onto a DVD. This process can be done in a short time.

Download Movie Maker by going to the Windows Live website. Click "Download Now." Click "Run." Check "Movie Maker." Click "Next." Check the boxes if you would like to have Bing as your default search engine and MSN as your homepage. Click "Next." Movie Maker installs.

Click the "Start" menu at the lower left of your monitor. Click "All Programs." A list of programs appears. Click on "Live Movie Maker." The program opens.

Attach a mini DV camcorder to a computer using a firewire cable. Plug one end of the cable into the digital video-out jack on your camcorder. It is usually labeled "Digital I/O." Plug the other end of the cable into the firewire jack on your computer.

Put a blank, writable DVD disk into your PC's DVD burner.

Using Movie Maker, click the blue square located on the upper left of the screen. Click "Import from Device." Click "DV." Click "Import." Type a name for your video and click "Burn the entire video to DVD." Type a DVD menu title in the box. Click "Next." The mini DV tape rewinds to the start and is captured into the Movie Maker software program. Take the DVD out and play it in your DVD player.
