According to Alan Rockoff, MD of the Rockoff Dermatology Center in Brookline, MA, pores cannot be removed or permanently made smaller. 1
Cleanse skin thoroughly using a facial soap that contains salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid commonly used to treat acne because it helps to prevent future build up of debris in the pores. Salicylic acid also has exfoliating properties which help to remove dead skin cells.

2
Remove debris built up in pores by using home facial products such as masks and pore strips. Masks and pore strips peel away impurities from the skin. Periodic professional facials and microdermabrasion treatments are also beneficial in keeping pores unclogged as are more serious treatments like chemical peels and laser resurfacing.

Close pores using a mild astringent with low or no alcohol content. Astringent removes the last traces of debris and oil in the pores and draws them closed. Using an astringent with high alcohol content dries out the skin. This can cause skin to become flaky and red, or to start overproducing oil to make up for the dryness.

4
Exfoliate skin in affected areas on a weekly basis. Not only does exfoliation keep pores clear of debris, it also smooths the rims of the pores which become larger as more dead skin cells build up. Smoothing this down gives the appearance of pore reduction. Always exfoliate gently, as the skin on the nose and face is delicate.

Tips & Warnings
Wash your pillow case one to two times per week. Oil and dirt can build up on pillowcases, seeping back into your skin as you sleep on them. Prevent this by using a fresh pillowcase often.
Drink plenty of water and fruits and vegetables. This will aid in keeping your skin clear and radiant looking.
