How to Repair a Viking Sewing Machine
Viking sewing machines are manufactured to perform better each time they are used. As a result, they generally require only regular care and maintenance with an occasional minor repair. Built to withstand extensive use, Viking sewing machines do not need oiling or belt adjustments. However, if something does go wrong and major repair is required, you can do several things to troubleshoot before taking the sewing machine to an expert for evaluation and repair.

Consult your Viking sewing machine operating manual before attempting to repair the machine on your own. It gives troubleshooting tips and instructions on how to operate your model sewing machine for best results.

Clean all removable sewing machine parts including the switch plate and bobbin case and hook. Brush out dirt, lint, thread strands and any sticky residue from fabric sizing that is stuck around exposed sewing machine moving parts. Use only the lint brush from the sewing machine's accessories box to clean delicate components. Paper or cloth towels contain lint and could further damage the sewing machine.

Replace any damaged parts, especially the needle plate. It can easily become damaged after long hours of sewing and may get chipped or develop sharp edges. Slight damage can be repaired by gently filing around the hole in the needle plate with an emery board. For long-term results, however, it should be replaced.

Reset all thread tension dials and presser foot controls to factory settings. Every Viking sewing machine is synchronized for optimal sewing performance at the time of manufacture and comes with predetermined top and bottom thread tensions and standardized presser foot pressure settings for normal sewing.

Take all computerized sewing and embroidery machines to an authorized Viking dealer. Dealers are expertly trained to evaluate the sensitive technology in these sewing machines and determine the type and extent of needed repairs. If possible, bring along a sewing sample that demonstrates the problem you are having.

Opening paragraph is lies. I have a 6360. Apparently Viking factory default oiled these machines with garbage that turns into a solidified gummy mess over time. If you are having trouble (particularly the machine getting stuck in perpetual reverse or the cams stopping working) take it to a repairman and tell them about the inferior oil product and request they strip and clean the machine and properly oil it with actual machine oil.
