How to Eliminate Google Ads

Google serves contextual ads to Internet users on numerous websites daily. Some viewers are annoyed by this form of Internet advertising, even though the ads are text-based and small. When a webmaster sloppily implements Google text ads on a website, it can be distracting. To avoid this, eliminate Google ads from appearing in any web browser.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Windows HOSTS file in "Notepad." The file is located in different places depending on which Windows operating system is installed on the computer. Here are the most common file locations:

      Windows 9x, ME: C:\WINDOWS

Windows NT (and some 2000): C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc

      Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 7: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

The HOSTS file has no extension.

    • 2

Copy and paste these two lines into the HOSTS file:

      127.0.0.1 pagead.googlesyndication.com

      127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com

Do not leave a blank space before pasted text.

    • 3

Click on "File" from the top bar menu. Select "Save" from the drop-down menu. This will save the HOSTS file in the same location as you found it. Close Notepad.

Tips & Warnings

  • After you update the HOSTS file, anti-spyware software may alert you. If you are prompted, approve the change.

  • There are free plug-ins available for major browsers, but this method blocks Google ads on any browser used on a computer.
