How to Set Up High-Speed Internet Cables
High-speed Internet is quickly becoming the standard in modern Internet connections. The way you set up a high-speed Internet connection is very similar to the way you set up dial-up connections. Setting up high-speed Internet cables, no matter whether they are for cable or DSL (digital subscriber line) service, is a simple process and will only take a few minutes.

1
Connect your source cable from the data jack in the wall to the modem provided by your Internet service provider (ISP). If you are using a cable connection, the data jack will be a cable jack. If you are using a DSL connection, the jack will be a phone jack. Once the cable is connected to the wall, connect the other end to the data in port on your modem.

2
Plug the modem's power adapter into the "AC in" port on the modem. Then plug the other end into a standard electrical outlet. Several lights should flash on the modem.

3
Use an Ethernet cable to connect the modem to the computer's network port. The Ethernet port on the modem should be clearly labeled, and the port on the computer will have an icon on it with three computers.
-
4
Power on your computer. The new network connection should automatically be detected, and a connection wizard will launch. This means your cables have been set up correctly.
