How to Repair a Sticky Computer Keyboard
After continued use, dirt, food crumbs, spilled drinks and dust can build up underneath the computer keys, causing them to stick, which is a common problem for computer users. Most of the time, sticky keyboard keys simply need a thorough cleaning, which can be done with a few basic tools and materials. This should restore your computer keyboard to proper working condition.
Things You'll Need
- Specialized computer vacuum
- Compressed air can (if necessary)
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Cloth
- Cotton swabs
- Flat-head screwdriver

Properly power off the computer keyboard prior to cleaning. Unplug it from the electrical outlet and remove any external devices such as a flash drive, printer or headphones.

Clean the keyboard with a vacuum equipped with a soft bristle attachment. This will remove any dirt and debris.

Slightly wet a cloth with isopropyl alcohol and and gently wipe the upper portion of the computer keys.

Dampen the cotton swabs with isopropyl alcohol and get in between the crevices of the keys. Wait a few minutes for the keys to dry.

Test the keyboard. Carefully pry off the keys with a flat head screwdriver if the are still sticky. Clean underneath the keys with isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth. Remove them one at a time, so you remember where they go.

Tips & Warnings
Clean up liquid spills immediately to prevent permanent damage to your computer keyboard. If you do spill liquid, turn the computer keyboard over to drain liquid and allow it to dry out.
