How to Disassemble My Halo XBox 360

A Torx size 7 screwdriver is needed to access the console's interior.

Microsoft Corp. manufactures several types of Xbox 360 consoles, including the "Halo Elite" Xbox 360, which includes HDMI output and a 250 GB hard drive. You can disassemble the Halo Xbox 360 just as you would another Xbox console. The process of opening the console takes about 15 minutes.

Things You'll Need

• Torx size 7 screwdriver

Instructions

1. Remove all video cables and power cords from the rear of the Xbox 360. Remove the faceplate on the front of the machine by gripping it firmly on one side and pulling toward yourself. The faceplate will come off and allow you to access the plastic shell covering the console.

2. Open the plastic casing on the Xbox 360; then use your Torx size 7 screwdriver to unscrew the screws located on the machine's metal interior. Slide open the console's metal cover to access the motherboard and other internal hardware components.

3. Unscrew the metal heatsinks on top of the GPU and CPU chips inside the console. Once the heatsinks are removed, you can access each chip and replace the thermal paste on top of it if needed.

Tips & Warnings

• Be sure to completely replace all internal and external components of the console (including screws and cables) before turning the Xbox 360 on again.
