How to Join the Young Marines
There are many parents and young people who see great value in military experience. One option for youths between ages 8 and 18 is the Young Marines. These programs can be found in most states and often have several branches or locations in each. They offer training and life experience for those who wish to immerse themselves in the spirited toughness of the US Marine Corps.

1
Go to the Young Marines website. Click the "Unit Locater" link in the right-hand corner of the screen.

2
Select the state of your choice from the map presented. It will then give you a list of the units found within that state. Under each, you should be able to locate a link that goes to their official site. Select that. Once you have done this, search the site for the description or sub-heading "How to Join."

Determine how many training sessions there are per year. Programs may vary, but typically there will be one or two yearly sessions. Once you have done this, you can decide when to enroll and prepare the other necessary criteria. If the roster is full for the present year, some programs will allow you to enter a waiting list and will provide the link for that below.

4
Contact the recruitment personnel. Some programs ask you to e-mail them with your information (age, address, e-mail address, etc.) as well as a brief statement on what makes you interested in joining the Young Marines. Your response should reflect that you appreciate the ethos and character of the Marine Corps and values of safety, hard work and respect.

5
Attend the recruitment session. This is required for all who plan to join the Young Marines. Most programs encourage you to bring family members such as your parents along with you. Here you can ask questions of the instructors, recruiters and other Young Marines that have already experienced the training.
-
6
Complete or bring the necessary paperwork. Programs may differ on the number of forms required, as well as which ones you bring to the recruitment session and those they will provide when you arrive. A medical release or health history from your doctor is usually required. Children younger than 18 will also need to provide parental consent. Most programs will also require your Social Security number, and emergency contact information. Many chapters have the required forms listed on their website.
