How to Improve Bitcomet Download Speed

BitComet is a popular "BitTorrent client" program that allows users to open .torrent files. Torrent files allow users to download files from one another in small pieces to achieve high download seeds. When downloading a popular file, you could download parts of the file from dozens of users at once. BitTorrent download speeds can be limited by BitTorrent client settings, firewall settings and other issues. Changing system settings and settings in BitComet may improve download speeds.

Instructions

    • 1

Cancel all other network traffic. Close other downloads and browsers on your computer and other computers on your network.

    • 2

Shut off Windows Firewall or other software firewalls on your computer. Firewalls can block communications that BitComet uses. Click "Start," "Control Panel," "Windows Firewall," "Change Settings," choose "Off" and then click "Apply."

    • 3

Download torrents with as many seeds and peers as possible. When you download torrent files, the sites that host them often list how many peers and seeds are sharing the file. If few people are sharing a file, the download speed will be slow regardless of your connection speed.

    • 4

Open BitComet, click "Tools" and then "Options."

    • 5

Click "Connection" "Network Wizard," select the network connection from the list that most accurately describes your connection speed and click "Ok."

    • 6

Click "Choose Random Port" next to "Listen Port."

    • 7

Check the boxes called "Enable Nat/Firewall Configuration," "Enable UPnP Port Mapping" and click "Apply."

Tips & Warnings

  • BitComet is one of several BitTorrent client programs. If you cannot get BitComet to work as fast as you would like, consider trying a different program, such as uTorrent or BitTorrent mainline, to see if you can achieve faster download speeds.

  • Downloading copyrighted data using BitComet may be illegal.

  • Download rates will not exceed the maximum bandwidth provided by your Internet service provider.
