How Do I Change the Battery on a 2006 Passat Keyless Remote?
The Passat is a sedan manufactured by the German automaker Volkswagen. The Passat comes equipped with a keyless-entry remote that allows the driver to unlock the vehicle without the use of a standard key. All Volkswagen keyless remotes share the same basic structure and battery type. Changing the battery yourself does not require any special tools. All that is needed is the right battery type.

1
Grab the keyless remote with both your hands and pull it apart. This will separate the remote into two halves. One half will be the key, and the other half will be the remote.
-
2
Locate the seam on the remote side of the key. It is the line that stretches along the side of the remote.
-
-
3
Pry the remote apart at the seam with your fingernails. If you do not have exceptionally long or strong fingernails, you may have to use a tool, such as a pair of tweezers or a small screwdriver.
-
4
Pop out the battery. The battery is the silver disc inside the remote body. You can pop it out with your fingernails or with a small tool.
-
5
Place the new battery into the remote. Press down to secure it.
-
6
Align the two sides of the remote and press them together to reattach at the seam. Take the two halves of the keyless entry unit and push them back together.
