How to Refill the Ink Cartridges for the Brother MFC-440CN
The Brother MFC-440CN is an all-in-one color photo printer and scanner. This model of Brother printer, uses the Brother LC51 model of printer cartridge to supply both color and black photo ink to the printer. If you want to refill these cartridges instead of replacing them, you can do so with a basic refilling process.
Things You'll Need
- Penknife
- 30cc refilling syringe
- Sharp filling needle attachment
- 15ml printer replacement ink
- Aluminum tape

Attach the needle to the end of the 30cc refilling syringe.

Place the tip of the needle into your replacement ink and pull back on the plunger of the syringe to fill it with 15ml of ink.

Break the paper seal on the side of the Brother LC51 cartridge with a penknife or similar tool.

Pull apart the halves of the Brother LC51 cartridge and place the half that holds the ink onto a flat surface so that the plastic covering faces upwards.

Pierce the top left side of the plastic covering with the sharp needle attachment on the syringe and push the plunger to release the 15ml of ink into the Brother cartridge.

Cut a small piece of aluminum tape and place it over the pierced hole to firmly seal it up.

Return the other half of the cartridge to the filled half and tape the two pieces securely together with aluminum tape or adhesive tape.
