How do I Write a Building Engineer Resume?

A strong resume can set you apart from other candidates and give you a better chance of getting an interview. In addition to a resume, it is also strongly advised to write a cover letter. Cover letters show a heavy interest in the open job position and that you are eager to get the opportunity and demonstrate your skills. A resume for a building engineer should highlight all of your skills and experience. It is acceptable for your resume to be longer than one page if you have a long work history and extensive experience.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your contact information at the top of the resume. This includes your name, address, e-mail address and phone number.

    • 2

Start the resume off with a career objective statement that gives an idea of what you want to accomplish in the engineering field. For example, an objective statement could be: To use my strengths in mathematical planning and design to plan out cutting-edge aviation models for Pratt and Whitney.

Type up an education section. Start with the most recent education first, which would be your degree in engineering from a university. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) states that "A bachelor's degree in engineering is required for most entry-level jobs, and some research positions require a graduate's degree." Name the university you received the degree from, the city and state where the university or school is located, as well as your GPA if it was over a 3.0. List any other degrees or minors you completed as well. If you received a graduate's degree in engineering, put the graduate school first, then the undergraduate university. In addition, include any additional specialized training you have received.

    • 4

Create an experience section. This section will highlight your accomplishments and roles in previous engineering positions. List all companies you worked for, the amount of time you spent at the company, and what your engineering job title was at the company. In addition, write one to two sentences for each job specifying your exact duties and tasks. Include any accomplishments you have achieved for in your previous positions. For example, name specific buildings you planned out yourself, or major roles you performed in a huge project.

Add in a computer skills section where you list all computer programs you are proficient with, for example, CAD, CRM and NC.

    • 6

Proofread your entire resume to make sure there are no grammatical errors. Double check to make sure all information is correct and that you have not left out anything important. Proofreading a resume is essential, since a resume with errors looks extremely unprofessional. According to BLS, a good resume is a key step in getting an engineering job, where the "starting salaries are the among the highest of all college graduates."
