How to Diagnose a Power Supply Failure in a Notebook Computer
Power supply failures can sometimes be difficult to diagnose, as power supplies may fail completely or cause random problems over time. When a power supply has a partial failure, it may be unable to supply power to all computer components, leading you to believe that a particular component has a problem instead of the power adapter. You can test out the power supply in a few different ways to get to the root of the problem.

Turn on your laptop computer and plug it into the power adapter.

Look in your system tray for the laptop charging icon, which usually looks like a power plug. Wait 10 minutes and see if your laptop's power adapter is charging the computer at all. If your laptop is fully charged, let it run the battery's charge down a bit before plugging it in.

Check the physical connections on the laptop's power adapter if it is not charging. Make sure that the cables are firmly connected and it is plugged fully into the laptop.

Shut your laptop down and turn it over. Slide your battery's locking button to the unlocked position and pop it out. Plug your power adapter back in and try to turn on the laptop. If the power adapter cannot charge the laptop battery and it can't power the laptop up on its own, it needs to be replaced.
