How to Use an IP Address for Windows XP Remote Assistance

Windows XP Professional contains the Remote Desktop feature, enabling you to connect with other computers through a local or wide-area network in order to alter computer settings and view files. This is possible through either utilization of the individual computer's name, or the computer's unique IP address, which serve as identifiers telling XP which computer to connect with.

Instructions

1. Click "Start," "Programs," "Accessories," "Communications" and "Remote Desktop."

2. Enter in the IP address of the computer to which you wish to connect and click "Connect."

3. Enter in a username and password for the computer and click "OK," completing the connection.
