1. Go online and choose an area of the country where you'd like to go camping.

2. Find a national park in that area and call to get more information and to reserve a campsite or a room in a lodge.

3. Pack up your car with camping gear and food (and perhaps champagne or sparkling cider) and drive to the national park.

4. Set up your camp.

5. Build a campfire or go to the fireplace in the lodge on New Year's Eve.

6. Toast the new year.

7. Set the right tone for the new year by hiking or walking in the park on January 1.
