How to Replace Toner for the LaserJet 4050N
In order to ensure the best quality for prints, it's important that you replace the toner cartridge shortly after receiving the message that the printer is low on toner. Proper installation of your HP LaserJet 4050N's toner cartridge is essential; otherwise, the printer will not work as it should and you may have problems printing in the future.

Lift the top cover on the printer to expose the toner cartridge.

Pull the toner cartridge up and out of the printer.

Shake the toner cartridge lightly for several seconds. This distributes the toner inside the unit evenly.

Bend the tab on the edge of the cartridge back and forth until it snaps off.

Pull the tab straight out to remove the protective tape from the cartridge and throw it away. Do your best not to touch any of the toner lingering on the tape.

Rotate and angle the cartridge so the arrow on it is pointing toward the inside of the printer.

Push the toner cartridge into the printer until it won't go in any farther.

Close the top cover.

Reset the toner gauge by pressing the "Value" button until you see "YES." Press the "Select" button and press "Go." This must be done while the "NEW TONER CARTRIDGE=NO" message is displayed. If it's not on the printer's screen, press "Menu" until you see "CONFIGURATION MENU" and press "Item" until the "NEW TONER CARTRIDGE=NO" message is displayed.
