Check your library for access to Reference USA. This subscription database is available only to institutions and is widely used by public libraries. Despite its name, Reference USA has comprehensive people-search tools that cover both the U.S. and Canada. Your local librarian can tell you if the service is available.

This free online service scours the Internet for information on people, searching both regular sources (the kind searched by most search engines) as well as the "deep web" that is not indexed by traditional search engines. Pipl searches both U.S. and Canadian source materials and presents its search results in a well-organized and often surprisingly comprehensive fashion.
