Make announcement cards to let family and friends know about your graduation.

Design your own announcement cards so you can share important events with family and friends. Mass produced announcement cards tend to be generic and cost more than ones you can make yourself. For example, create graduation announcement cards to let everyone in your family know about your scholastic achievements, and to celebrate the special date when you get your diploma. Keep in mind you can design announcement cards for any major event or milestone that you would like to share with the people in your life.

Instructions

  1. Make Graduation Announcement Cards

    • 1

Purchase a package of blank half-fold cards and envelopes for designing your graduation announcement cards. Find packages of blank cards and envelopes at crafting stores and hobby shops.

    • 2

Type a short graduation announcement in a word processing program such as Microsoft Word. Type up an announcement that will inform people about when and where the event will be and who it is about. Make sure the typed information is compact enough to fit on the inside of a 4 by 5-inch card.

    • 3

Print out copies of the typed graduation announcement, but make sure to print a few extra copies in case you decide to invite more people to your graduation later on.

    • 4

Use squiggly edge scissors to cut out the printed announcements so these will fit inside the 4 by 5-inch cards. Keep in mind you will gluing these inside the decorated cards.

    • 5

Search for pictures of mortarboard hats on photo-sharing sites, or draw one of your own. Drawing your own picture is creative because you can make it as simple or ornate as you wish. Color in the mortarboard of the hat with a black colored pencil, and make the tassel yellow, or whatever color your graduation tassel will be. Scan your drawing so you can print it off the computer.

    • 6

Print out pictures of a mortarboard hat you found on a photo-sharing site, or the scan of your mortarboard drawing. Print out several extra copies in case you need these later on.

    • 7

Cut out each mortarboard hat and glue one on the front of each card. Allow the card to dry, and then write a message on the front such as "Dan's College Graduation: Class of 2014" with a sparkly gold or silver gel pen. Writing a message on the front of card may take extra time, but it will give your graduation announcements a handmade feel.

    • 8

Glue a printout of the graduation announcement on the inside of each card, which will look whimsical since these were cut out with squiggly edge scissors. Allow all the cards to dry before placing these in the envelopes to send in the mail.

    • 9

Decorate the envelopes for your graduation announcement cards with stickers of mortarboard hats and diplomas, which you can purchase at a local crafting store.
