How to Make a Word Scramble Online for Free

Word scrambles are fun for students.

A word scramble is a puzzle in which the letters comprising a word or group of words are rearranged, or "scrambled"; the solver's job is to unscramble the word and put it back into its original form. Word scrambles are appropriate, fun and educational exercises for students.

Instructions

1. Choose from among several online sites to create your puzzle. Some examples are The Teachers Corner, Teach-nology and Edu Bakery.

2. Choose a category from those provided, or pick one of your own. The category can be from a unit the class is studying, or it can be fun for a holiday theme such as Halloween or Christmas. Create a list of words from the category or unit and apply them to your puzzle maker. Some sites set a word limit, so choose your words carefully.

3. Insert words into the puzzlemaker using options for letter, word and font. The words will be scarmbled for you. Make the puzzle easier by using a capital first letter, or make it more difficult by using all capital or all lowercase letters.

4. Print out the puzzles and distribute to students if they are being used in a classroom or educational setting. Allow students to work individually, in pairs or in groups to solve the puzzles.
