How to Sign Thank You Cards

How to Sign Thank You Cards thumbnail
Thank you cards are appropriate after receiving gifts or services.

Thank you cards show your appreciation for a gift or service in a thoughtful way. Retailers offer many designs and styles of thank you cards, from large elaborate cards to small, boxed note cards. Even if you have a lot of thank you cards to sign and send, you should take time to write a small personal note on each--this helps the card seem like a genuine thank you card and not just a card sent out of obligation.

Instructions

    • 1

Greet the person by name when you are penning the thank you card--don't just start in by writing a thank you and don't simply sign your name. Start by writing "Dear Joe," (use whatever the person's name is in place of Joe).

    • 2

Be specific about what you are thanking the person for. For example, if you received a new waffle maker, you can write "thank you so much for the new waffle maker."

    • 3

Add one way in which the item or service benefited you or will benefit you. For example, in the case of the waffle maker, you could write "I really enjoy waffles and look forward to trying this out. It is a very thoughtful gift."

    • 4

End it on a pleasant note. You could say "I hope this finds you well and happy" or something similar. Keep it pleasant and sincere.

    • 5

Sign your name at the bottom. This usually means the bottom right-hand corner, although the spot is flexible.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have a lot of cards to sign, Wedding Paper Divas suggests dividing the cards into daily groups so you don't try to do them all in one day. Your penmanship will likely be better and your prose fresher if you do simply a handful at a time.
