How to Restore the Microsoft XP Screensaver
If your computer is running the Windows XP operating system and no screen saver is being displayed, you can restore it from your XP desktop. When restoring the screen saver, you can use the default screen saver (named Windows XP) or any other screen saver installed on your computer. When restoring the screen saver, you can also change the settings to determine when and how the screen saver is displayed. Setting up a screen saver will increase the life of your computer monitor or laptop screen.

Boot up your computer and enter your password to log into your XP account. Allow the desktop to fully load and close out of any windows that open on your screen.

Right click an open space on your XP desktop that does not have any icons or shortcuts, using your mouse. Click on the "Properties" option in the small window that comes up.

Click the tab that is labeled as "Screen Saver" towards the top center of the "Display Properties" window that loads. Click in the box that currently reads "(None)" to pull up a list of screen savers that you can activate.

Restore your XP screen saver by selecting which screen saver you would like to use from the drop down list. "Windows XP" is the default screen saver for the XP operating system.

Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the window and your screen saver will be restored and activated. By default, the screen saver will be displayed when your computer has not been used for 15 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
You can preview the various screen savers installed on your computer by clicking the "Preview" button in the "Screen Saver" section of the "Display Properties" window.
Leaving the same page or screen open on your monitor for extended periods of time can damage the screen. Screen savers prevent the onset of damage by displaying a screen with constantly moving objects.
