Learn to avoid soil pollution.

Soil pollution is the contamination of the soil through polluting agents and deforestation. The contamination of the soil is extremely difficult to ameliorate and can inhibit the proper growth of crops and plants. Avoiding soil pollution is a good way to prevent permanent damage. In order to avoid soil pollution, do not advocate the destruction of the natural environment, dispose of solid waste properly, do not pour contaminated water over the soil, do not spray pesticides, and do not use excess fertilizer.

Instructions

    • 1

Protect the natural environment. You can ruin the content of the soil by cutting down too many trees, planting too many crops, or performing an excessive amount of construction.

    • 2

Dispose of solid waste properly. Throwing solid waste on the soil may appear as a simple way to dispose of it, yet the chemicals from the solid waste will seep into the soil and harm it. When disposing of solid waste, throw it into the waste basket, or read the directions of how it should be thrown away. Never put it over the soil.

    • 3

Avoid pouring contaminated water over the soil. The liquid consistency of the water makes it easier for the chemicals to penetrate the soil.

    • 4

Look for alternatives to spraying pesticides. Some people spray pesticides on their crops in order to prevent the pests from eating them; however, the pesticides have harsh chemicals that can seep into the soil. These chemicals can prevent future crops from growing properly. They can also cause environmental damage. Find natural ways of preventing pesticides in the yard, such as using insects that eat pests.

    • 5

Avoid using an excess of fertilizer. Fertilizers can help provide nutrients to the plants, such as potassium and phosphorus. However, fertilizers can contain traces of metals, such as cadmium. The metals can damage the soil and ruin its fertility.

    • 6

Discuss the danger of soil pollution with others. Tell your friends and family members about why it is important to avoid soil pollution. By setting a good example, and helping others to do the same, you can work to prevent soil pollution.
