Most diagnostic programs can detect what kind of motherboard a computer has.

The motherboard is one of the most important components of a computer. It is used by all components of your computer, and it is the first thing that is turned on when the computer is powered up. However, since most people never see their motherboard, they might not know who makes it, let alone its model number or any of its specifications. But, there are several free programs available online that can gather this information for you.

Instructions

  1. Using Speccy

      Download and install Speccy (see Resources).

      Launch the program and click on the "Summary" tab.

      Under "Motherboard" you'll find the name of your motherboard. Click on it for additional information.

    Using CPU-Z

      Download and install CPU-Z (see Resources).

    • 5

      Launch the program after installation is complete.

      Click on the "Mainboard" tab. All the information for your motherboard can be found there.

    Using Belarc Advisor

      Download and install Belarc Advisor (see Resources).

    • 8

      Launch the program after installation is complete. It will run automatically run a diagnostic routine that may take several minutes. After it is complete, a window will open in your Internet browser.

      Look under "Main Circuit Board" in the window that opened in your Internet browser. This is your motherboard information.
