How to Perform CHKDSK /F at Startup
Chkdsk is an MD-DOS command that goes through the file system of a disk or hard drive. It has the capability of both finding and fixing errors, depending on the specific Chkdsk command used. "Chkdsk /f" is the syntax for the command that tells the computer to fix the errors found on the drive during the Chkdsk scan. You can boot your computer in safe mode to perform "Chkdsk /f" during the startup process.

Reboot your computer.

Press the "F8" key and hold it as the computer boots up.

Choose "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" by moving the up and down arrows to highlight the option and pressing "Enter."

Tips & Warnings
If your computer emits a loud beep while you are holding down the "F8" key, try tapping the key instead of just holding it down.
