How do I Donate Computers in Washington, DC?
If you have some computers at home or office in the Washington, DC, area that you no longer want, don't trash or recycle them. If the computers are in good working order, donate them to a charitable organization in the area. Making a charitable donation of a computer to an organization in the Washington, DC, area qualifies you for a tax writeoff if the organization is tax exempt.

Then confirm the tax exempt status of any charities to which you are interested in donating by using the Publication 78 page of the Internal Revenue Service website (see Resources). The Charity Choices website lists charities that accept computer donations.

Reach out to the charity where you want to make your computer donation to confirm that computers are accepted. The charity may have minimum requirements, such as processing speed, for computer donations.

Check the fair market value of the computer before you donate it with a used price guide (see Resources). You also can look for similar computers listed for sale in any local newspaper classified ads.

Pack up the computer, along with the keyboard and any other accessories you want to donate, and take it to the charity donation center. Make sure to get a receipt before you leave the donation center as you will need it to claim the donation on your taxes.
