How do I Find Disney Pins for Cheap?

How do I Find Disney Pins for Cheap? thumbnail
Stock up on inexpensive trading pins before your trip to Walt Disney World.

Although Disney parks have always offered collectible pins, the first official pin trading activities began in October of 1999, during the Millennium celebration. Since that time, pin trading has become a very popular activity for guests in all of the parks. Cast members are at almost every attraction in Disney World wearing lanyards covered in pins. You may trade any of your Disney pins for any pin on a cast member's lanyard, unless the lanyard is green. These are special collections that only children may obtain in a trade. Pin collectors often purchase inexpensive pins to use for trading in the parks before their Disney vacation, so that they don't have to trade their expensive, collectible versions.

Search thrift shops and used clothing stores in your area. Many of these stores--such as the Salvation Army or Value World--have a basket of pins and other jewelry on or in the front counter. If these pins have been donated, they are often hidden in piles of other jewelry, waiting to be found.

Shop at one of the Disney outlet stores in the Orlando area. There are three main Disney outlet stores near Walt Disney World; each of them carries discounted Disney pins. They may be this year's pins from earlier in the year or last year's model, but you are likely to find either a good inexpensive collectible or many good pins for trading.

Visit the Disney pin store in Downtown Disney. You will find a grouping of tables outside the store. Disney has set up these tables so that pin collectors can display their wares for sale and to trade. Collectors often gather here, showing hundreds of pins, from the rarest finds to the most common pins. Search the collections for common trading pins. The collectors will often give you a deal on a beginner set of pins, especially if you tell them that you are just starting out with the hobby.
