How to Refill a Canon C41
Anyone who does a lot of printing knows the costs of constantly replacing printer cartridges. If you want to eliminate some of the expense of replacing the Canon C41 cartridge in your Canon printer, you can choose to refill the cartridge when it runs out of ink, instead of buying new cartridges. Unlike many cartridges, the Canon C41 has built-in holes that can be used for refilling, making the refill process relatively simple.
Things You'll Need
- Canon C41 cartridge
- Canon C41 ink
- Thumb drill
- Tape
- Three syringes with needles

1
Place the Canon C41 cartridge on a covered surface with the label facing up. Remove the label by carefully pulling it back and stick the label to a surface where you can easily peel it back off. Three holes are exposed on the top of the cartridge.
-
2
Stick the tip of the thumb drill into the first hole on the cartridge and twist the drill to widen the hole. Once the hole is wide enough to fit the needle of the syringe, drill the other two holes to the same size.

-
3
Put a small piece of tape over two of the three holes that you drilled. Leave one hole uncovered for filling.
-
4
Place the needle onto the tip of the syringe and twist the needle to lock it into place. Dip the tip of the needle into the hole you left uncovered and pull it back out to see which color of ink goes in that hole. Once you determine the correct ink color, open that ink bottle, stick the tip of the needle into the ink and pull back on the plunger until fill the syringe to approximately 6 ml.
-
5
Press the needle into the hole in the cartridge until it touches the bottom, and then pull back just slightly. Press the plunger slowly to fill the cartridge with ink until the syringe is empty, or until ink starts to squeeze out the top of the hole. Wipe any ink from the top of the cartridge.
-
6
Cover the hole with tape and uncover the second hole. Put the second needle on the second syringe and dip the needle into the hole to determine the color needed. Fill the syringe with the proper color and inject the ink into the hole. Repeat the process for the third color.
-
7
Cover all of the holes with a fresh piece of tape and use a pin to make a small hole in the tape just above each ink hole to let the ink get air. Return the Canon C41 cartridge to the printer.
