How to Secure Ebooks
An e-book is the digital equivalent of a printed book. Adobe's PDF format is the standard format used to exchange documents such as e-book. Securing your e-book is important, it protects your work from reproduction or distribution. There are many free applications that you can use to secure a PDF. You can use passwords to restrict your e-book from being opened or edited. You can digitally sign and certify your e-book to prevent other users from tampering with your e-book's content.

Open your Web browser. Navigate to the NitroPDF website. Click "Free Trial." Click "Download the free 14-day trial." Click "Save." Wait for the file to finish downloading. As this download is only a 14-day trial, you must purchase NitroPDF to continue using it after 14 days. It currently costs $99.99.

Click "Run" in the Windows Security window. Wait for the setup files to be extracted to your system. Click "Next" and agree to the license agreement. Wait for installation to complete and click "Finish."

Click the "N" button in the top left corner of the window. Click "Open" and select your e-book. Click "Secure and Sign." Use the options to add different forms of security to your PDF, click "Password Security" to add passwords or "Certify" to add document certification. Once you have added the desired security settings, click the "N" button and click "Save."

Open your Web browser. Navigate to the Drumlin security website. Click "Downloads" and download the application. The Drumlin Security application is free for personal users.

Right click on the file, click "Extract here..."

Open "Drumlin4setup." Click "Next." Check "I Agree" and click "Next." Wait for the installation to complete and click "Close."

Open your "Start" menu. Click "All Programs." Open "Drumlin v4." Click "File." Click "Register Client." Complete the form and click "OK."

Click "File." Click "Open," and select your e-book. Click "File." Click "Publish Documents..." Select your desired passwords, permissions and watermarks if you wish to add them and click "OK." Click "File," click "Save" and save your e-book with its new security settings.
