1
Purchase a lowlight kit at your local grocery store, drugstore or beauty-supply store to create lowlights, sections of hair that are darker than your base color. Alternatively, ask your hair stylist to give you lowlights.
-
2
Pick a lowlighting shade that is within two shades of your natural color to create the most natural look while providing a thicker appearance to hair.
-
-
3
Protect your clothes and the floor with old towels that you do not mind staining.
-
4
Place a thin layer of petroleum jelly along the hairline, on the tops of ears and on the back of the neck to protect the skin from the hair color.
-
5
Use a comb to create small sections of hair that are spaced about two fingers apart and are about 1/2 inch in width.
-
6
Color each section of hair with the lowlighting kit and allow the color to sit for approximately 20 minutes. Rinse well and wash with a gentle shampoo and intensive conditioner.
