How to Upload AJAX Files

AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) offers a useful way to upload content without reloading the entire page. It is implemented into HTML documents (Web pages) to create a better viewing experience for visitors. Once you have created your page containing AJAX, you must upload the files to your Internet server. A File Transfer Protocol (FTP) client simplifies this process by allowing you to transfer files from your computer to the server by dragging and dropping them into the FTP program.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install an FTP client. Commonly used ones include FileZilla (free, open source and available for Windows, Mac and Linux); SmartFTP (available for Windows only); and FTP Client (available for Mac only).

    • 2

Open your FTP program and connect to your Web server. The information for connecting to your site can be obtained by contacting your Web host provider, and is usually emailed to you once you set up your account. It includes the address for the FTP server, username and password.

    • 3

Locate the HTML file in your FTP client on the side of the partition that contains your computer files. Click, drag and drop the file from the "computer" side of the partition to the "server" side of the partition.

Tips & Warnings

  • Windows includes an FTP tool, "My Network Places," within its operating system. This can also be used for uploading files to websites.
