How to Create Appliance Handle Covers
Kitchen appliance handle covers will save wear and tear on the handles and make old ones look new. A wide array of fabrics can be used. It's a great way to use up leftover material and coordinate your kitchen. Make special ones for holidays and celebrations. Decorate them any way that is appropriate for the occasion.

1
Measure from one screw that attaches the oven door handle to the stove to the other screw. That's how long the cover should be. For these instructions, a 16-inch cover is being made.
-
2
Cut two pieces of fabric that are 16 inches long and 7 inches wide. If your handle is larger or smaller, cut the fabric accordingly.

3
Cut one piece of quilt batting or an old blanket that is 14 inches long and 6 inches wide. If using a thin blanket, two strips may be needed. It has to wrap around the handle, so don't make it really thick.
-
4
Use an iron to press in ¼ to ½ inch on all four sides of both pieces of fabric. This makes the sewing much easier. Lay one piece on your work surface with the right side down. Lay the quilt batting or blanket strip in the center of the fabric and cover it with the other 16-inch piece of fabric. The printed or right side of the top piece should be facing up.
-
5
Pin the pieces together with straight pins to keep them even. Sew a seam of straight stitches around all four sides ¼ inch from the edges.
-
6
Sew a straight seam about 3 inches from each end. This helps keep the lining in place.
-
7
Attach the Velcro strips, snaps or hook and eye closures to the inside edges of the cover so that one edge slightly overlaps the other.
