How to Locate an Unlisted Phone Number

How to Locate an Unlisted Phone Number thumbnail
Find a changed number with a tad of sleuthing.

If someone you know has changed his phone number, it may be challenging to find the new one. When landlines were primary numbers, an inquiry to the local service provider's directory was all that was required. However, with myriad cellphone companies covering all of the United States, you may not know where to start. There is no nationwide directory information for cell phones, so finding that changed number may prove to be a challenge.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the person on a social networking site, such as My Space, Facebook or LinkedIn. Send her a message, and ask for her new phone number.

    • 2

Enter the person's name and location into a search engine. He may have listed the new number on his website, in a personal ad or other location.

    • 3

Send a letter to the person via first-class mail. If she has changed her address in addition to changing her phone number, the U.S. Postal Service forwards mail for up to one year after the move. Send the person a postcard with your preferred number, and ask her to call you. When she calls you, the number will show up on your caller ID.

    • 4

Navigate to a directory website, such as the White Pages (whitepages.com) or Zabasearch (zabasearch.com). Type the person's name into the appropriate text box to obtain a list of entries. Narrow your search by entering the person's state of residence, address and/or ZIP code.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you can't find the person you are looking for, try looking for his friends or relatives. Call them and politely ask if they can give you the person's new cell phone number.
