How do I Replace Wiper Blades on a 2001 Rav4?
Windshield wipers are used to clear debris from the windshield in addition to wiping rain to improve the driver's vision during a storm. After an extended period of time, windshield wipers will need to be replaced due to cracking and deterioration caused by exposure to the elements. The 2001 Toyota Rav4 has two wiper blades on the front windshield, and one blade on the rear. New windshield wiper blades can be purchased from most Toyota dealerships, auto parts stores and big box retailers.

Front Blades

1
Turn on the Rav4 and then turn the front wipers on. Turn off the car when the wipers are halfway extended. This will allow for easier access to the wiper blades.
-
2
Pull up on the blade to extend the wiper blade arm.
-
-
3
Locate the wiper blade release clip, located in the center of the wiper blade, where the arm meets the blade. Pivot the blade and then pull up on the clip to release the wiper blade. Slide the blade off of the hook-end of the arm to release the blade.
-
4
Compare the old blade to the new blade to ensure that they are the same size. Different vehicles require different size blades, and it is important to use the correct size intended for your vehicle. When purchasing the blades, the retail location will often have a book on hand that lists the exact sizes required for the 2001 Toyota Rav4.

5
Slide the hook-end of the arm around the center post of the new wiper blade and pull firmly to ensure a tight fit. Push the release lever down so that it is flush with the blade, then gently bring the wiper blade arm back to its normal position on the vehicle. Repeat this process for the other front wiper blade.
Rear Blade
-
6
Lift the plastic cover at the bottom of the blade using your fingers to allow the arm to pivot away from the vehicle. Pull the arm away from the vehicle so that the blade may be removed.
-
7
Rotate the blade towards the passenger side of the vehicle for removal. Rotate the blade until you hear a click, indicating that the blade has been released.
-
8
Remove the blade by sliding it to the left and out of the plastic support.
-
9
Compare the original blade to the new blade, ensuring that the blades are identical in size.
-
10
Align the center post on the blade with the plastic support. Push the blade towards the vehicle so that the post locks into the plastic support. It may be necessary to twist the blade if you have difficulty inserting it into the support. Once the blade is securely held by the plastic support, lower the arm and blade back to their resting position against the body of the vehicle.
