How do I Cancel Meetings According to Roberts Rules of Parliamentary Procedures? thumbnail
Meetings have to run by rules.

Many committees and organizations use Roberts Rules of Order to help them conduct their business in an orderly and efficient way. The rules cover actions such as proposing motions and seconding them, and tabling proposals. There are also rules for whether meetings can be held, taking into consideration such things as a quorum. One group of rules stipulates the procedure to cancel meetings.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine if a full quorum is present based on the number your organization chose, such as 50 percent. If a quorum is not present, point this out to the presiding officer and suggest that he cancel the meeting until a quorum is reached. If the presiding officer agrees, the meeting is canceled.

    • 2

Reschedule or delay a meeting (if you are the presiding officer) for other reasons should you deem it necessary, unless a majority of those present vote otherwise.

    • 3

Propose that the body as a whole resolve that the meeting should be rescheduled, postponed or canceled entirely. Should a majority vote yes, the meeting is ended.
