How to Polish a Bass Clarinet
Polishing a bass clarinet is a good way to care for your instrument, and to make it shiny. The bass clarinet is a woodwind instrument that is played using a mouthpiece with a reed. Unlike the regular clarinet, the bass clarinet is not straight. Rather, it is in the shape of a J. The bass clarinet plays notes of the lower register, while the regular clarinet plays notes of the upper register. In order to polish a bass clarinet, take apart the instrument, absorb the moisture on the interior of the bass clarinet, clean the pads and then wipe the surface.

1
Take apart the bass clarinet. When polishing a bass clarinet, you must separate all of the pieces. The bass clarinet can disassemble when you have to fit it in the case. For example, the mouthpiece, barrel, upper joint, lower joint and the bell can all separate.

2
Insert a cleaning rod into each part of the bass clarinet. This will help to absorb the moisture. Not removing the excess moisture in the bass clarinet will damage the instrument and its sound.

3
Take a small piece of the cleaning paper and place it under one of the pads of the bass clarinet. The pads are the cushions underneath the keys. Press the pad over the cleaning paper. Do not pull on the cleaning paper while you do this. Repeat this action with each key.

4
Obtain a polishing cloth and gently rub the surface of the pieces of the bass clarinet. This will help to remove any moisture on the surface of the instrument, and provide the bass clarinet with a shiny exterior.
