My Gateway Laptop Won't Start in Safe Mode

Safe Mode is a feature on all Windows laptop computers.

Often it is necessary to boot a computer from Safe Mode. This starts the computer with only the required files needed to run the operating system. If the Safe Mode feature is not loading on your Gateway laptop computer, the Safe Mode option is not being accessed properly. To correct this, you need to properly bring up the boot menu options to load the system in Safe Mode.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" button on the desktop and then choose "Turn Off Computer" from the list of options.

    • 2

Select "Restart" and wait for the operating system to shut down. If your computer is part of a network (usually at work or school), you will be asked, "What do you want the computer to do?" Select "Restart" in this box and then click "OK" to restart the computer.

    • 3

Press the "F8" key as the computer begins to boot, and the Windows Advanced Options Menu screen will load.

    • 4

Press the down arrow button and select "Safe Mode" from the list of options. Then press "Enter." Click "Yes" when you are asked whether you're sure you want to boot in Safe Mode. The Safe Mode of the OS will load onto the screen.
